Disabled Veteran's Fishing Outing
East Ohio - Northwest Penn Chapter once again gave a "Helping Hand" to our countries disabled veterans. The chapter is proud to provide these men and women with a quality day in the outdoors.

Recently, Chapter members accompanied disabled Veterans from the Erie Soldiers and Sailors Home, Erie Veterans Administration Hospital and the Warren State Hospital Nursing Care Unit to enjoy a day outdoors along beautiful Deer Lick Creek in Sheffield, Pa.

The weather was near perfect for fishing and all those who attended were ready to get started enjoying a day in the outdoors. First on the agenda was a welcome snack and coffee, cookies and sonuts. Then it was time to try to catch some of the 200 to 300 fish that had been stocked by the volunteers. It wasn't long before there were plenty of trout waiting for attention a the cleaning table. Before the end of the day the trout were cleaned and packed in coolers, ready to be taken back to provide the veterans with a full great fish fry.

After fishing was finished for the day, volunteers served hot roast beef dinners, potato salad, baked beans, fruit salad, cookies and beverages to the hungry anglers. Over 100 veterans and helpers were on hand.

Catching a fish was incidental to many of the veterans who enjoyed the day fishing. Even more important then reeling in a big fish was being able to be outdoors and enjoy the fresh air and the sun's warmth and listening to sounds of laughter and the conversations about the big one that got away.

This is just another fine example of how SCI East Ohio Northwest Penn Chapter members help to make life's little pleasures available to others. I would like to thank all the volunteers and the members of the chapter for making this project possible and for being willing to give a "Helping Hand".
A group of high school students from North-Mar Church in Warren, Ohio recently traveled to Burkino Faso, West Africa for two weeks. The students were involved in helping the poor, working with children, distributing medical supplies to a health clinic, constructing a school for high school kids and gaining a vision and a heart for being better advocates for the poor in Africa. It truly was a life changing experience.

The East Ohio Northwest Penn Chapter of SCI donated medical supplies using their "Safari Blue Care Bags". The supplies were used in the ACCEDES Health Clinic in Bobo Dioulassa, Burkina Fasco. Supplies were to be used to help the poorest or the poor in this remote Africa nation. Thanks to the Safari Club for their generosity and love for the world.
